After working with Alissa over the past year I’ve made a whole bunch of little changes that I’ve stuck with. And I think I’ve stuck with them because they ARE little changes.
Someone may think, what is that small thing, like drinking an extra glass of water daily, going to do?
It’s going to give you one small little push towards a healthier, happier you. Then you add another small habit. ANYTHING that is going to be beneficial to your overall well-being. It’s small, so it’s doable. No big deal. And then you keep going!
I can honestly say that I am in a better place after working with Alissa and using this technique. I’m down 10 pounds. I eat healthier. I move more. I sleep better. And I’m still adding little tweaks to my habits to improve myself, and I plan to continue doing that for the rest of my life. ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
I came into the JOY program having completed yoga teacher training, which is where I met Alissa. I felt I had many tools for self-care and an understanding of how to move my body to feel good mentally and physically. So, I was initially hesitant because I figured I was already healthy enough.
After speaking with Alissa and having her pose the question, “Where do you want to be in a year?” I gave it some serious thought. Honestly, my admiration of and trust in Ali made me take the next step and enroll in JOY.
I am used to doing things solo, but the group meetings have been so enjoyable. There is always some snippet of information that helps me to grow. I also value Ali’s knowledge and responsiveness. Having been in the program for several months, I am happy to report that my initial goals have come to fruition.
It has been a strange and challenging time globally. Still, the habits I have learned and incorporated have given me the comfort and ease in my body that I was missing. I have gained more tools to help regulate my mood and have done some self-exploration, giving me insight into my behavior and needs. Through the principles we have visited and revisited, I feel a dynamic shift in my overall being. I’m accomplishing this one small step at a time.
I am somewhat spontaneous by nature, but I am so thankful that I took the time to think of my future self. Also, I’m happy that I invested in myself to ensure that my days keep getting better and better.
My experience with Alissa was life changing. She is so inspirational, supportive and an amazing teacher. I learned so much in a short amount of time and was able to make reasonable changes that fit with my lifestyle.
Life has been extra stressful lately for everyone and Alissa has helped me take care of myself and stay focused on building better habits and habit stacking. The weekly calls with Alissa and the group brighten my day and are a highlight of my week. She is a role model and helps me see that change is possible for everyone.
The last few months with Journey to an Optimal You have been very enlightening. There were many items that we covered that I never heard of before and at the same time changed my understanding of some things that I believed to be true but that’s not the case (eating more small meals throughout the day).
The steps we are learning are always on my mind and help me make better decisions throughout the day. I feel like I’m making small but positive changes every day.
Over the past 2.5 months I have taken more time to focus on me and how I am feeling. I am making sure I take certain steps in my day so that I can feel my best. In the past I have not paid this much attention to how I feel and what my body is doing. Taking small steps to get to this point has been the key to making these habits stick. In the next quarter I hope to refine these habits and continue to feel even better. Looking forward to what this quarter will bring into my life.
Having started to develop these habits has given me tools to cope with the pandemic and the up and down emotions that have come with it. If I didn’t have these tools, I feel like my old habits would have left me emotionally unstable and probably more susceptible becoming sick during this period of time. My new habits allow me to feel and function better.
These habits have created a level of ease in my life that is remarkable. Even though life stressors continue to come up, I don’t react the same way. I feel carried by the current instead of knocked around by it. And if I do start to react to life in old ways – feeling overwhelmed, angry, numbing out, irritated by other people, generally frustrated – then I know what to do to get back into the flow of ease.
For years, I tried to implement change on my own. My deep growth process took place when I surrounded myself with a support system that held me accountable and let me share my wins. Anyone can look at a list of habits and try to implement them. In fact, some of these habits were already familiar to me when I started. What I really needed was a a mentor and a community with similar visions for the future to encourage me to put in the practice of repatterning my mind and body. This is what continues to propel me to that next level. This is more than just habits. It’s a guided personal transformation.
I have been implementing the 10 habits from Ayurveda and Yoga for over a year now and I can honestly say it has been a GAME CHANGER. Being able to cycle through this deep wisdom, in such a supportive way, with other like minded individuals all on their own journey towards optimum health and wellbeing has been nothing short of inspirational. I have unravelled so many habits that were no longer serving me – that I just was not able to deconstruct on my own. I was able to clearly see the stories that I was not able to deconstruct on my own. I was able to clearly see the stories that I was telling myself that were holding me back from my own evolution. This is a life long path for me now.
These habits have opened a whole new level of health for me! I feel younger now than I felt in my 20’s, my focus is incredible, I burst forth with creativity, and I am loving life to the max! It is so incredible to wake up each day at 5ish in the morning, revving to go, counting my blessings and ready to tackle the day with vigour and enthusiasm. I dare not think how my life would have panned out without them!

Alissa is an exceptional personal trainer and an extraordinary human being. I met Alissa at the gym approximately 3 years ago and she has been my trainer ever since. She is personable, motivating and easygoing. Her workouts are challenging, diverse and interesting. Alissa listens to her client’s needs and provides excellent tips on healthy living and workout programs. Her knowledge, attitude and variety of exercises is what I enjoy the most when working with her. Her optimism and healthy approach to life motivates me to perform better and stay on the right track. Alissa is always conscious of injuries and gives options if needed. She pays attention to the proper form which is very important to me. I wanted to work with a trainer who offers more than just a quick fix. I was searching for a lifestyle change and I am able to accomplish my goals with Alissa’s help. I enjoy working with her and her advice on workouts and nutrition are truly valuable to me. Since I started training, I get continued compliments on my muscle tone and healthy appearance.
I look forward to my workout sessions with Alissa every week and I strongly recommend her as a personal trainer.
Love yoga with Alissa
I am currently taking yoga classes with Alissa Xander. I must say I was nervous about starting yoga, not sure what I was getting myself into. After taking class #1, I knew I made the right decision. Alissa demonstrates modifications so the class accommodates all levels and abilities. She is an awesome instructor and an amazing lady.
