Do you invest in yourself?

Do you invest in the things that help you grow, or do you feel guilty spending money or time on yourself? 

Have you been taught that it’s ok to spend money on things? Still, you feel selfish investing money in your personal growth–things like education or taking care of your health and the only body you’ve got?

Do you think that you’re not worth the investment? Maybe you’ve gotten so used to putting yourself last that you don’t believe you deserve to invest in your health or happiness.

Time and money put toward improving yourself pay off in so many ways down the road. It’s an investment that compounds daily with every action you take. 

When you begin to make small, incremental changes to your health, it shows up. Healthy changes are like money in the bank–only better because the payoff is in how you feel tomorrow and into the future. 

You begin to get better quality sleep and feel more energetic.

Your clothing starts to fit better. 

You have more mobility and fewer aches and pains. 

You reverse and prevent disease.

And the benefits extend to your relationships with your partner, family, friends, and even your job. 

You reduce stress, anxiety, and depression.

On the flip side, when you spend money on things, such as a new car, it may look pretty and have all the latest gadgets. Still, the second you drive it off the lot, it’s depreciating, and you’ve lost money. So it’s money spent, not invested.

Or maybe, you’re a fan of sales and saving money. I’ve always liked saving a dollar or two. But I’ve come to learn that when I’m trying to save a few dollars, that I sometimes end up spending way more than I intended. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve bought more than I meant to get free shipping. Or I figured I was getting such a great deal on one shirt that I may as well buy a second one–and then I wondered why my closet was so cluttered!

Maybe you can relate. Have you ever gone shopping with your list in your hand, only to leave the store with several things that you hadn’t even been thinking of buying? How does this happen? It could be impulse buys, a fancy display, or a deal that you believe is too good to miss.

I’m not here to tell you what to spend your money on, but I want you to realize that you are more valuable than any clothing, kitchen gadgets, devices, nicknacks, etc., that you could buy. So, if you think you’re not worth it to take that course, work with a coach, or go after your desire, you are discounting your worth. 

When you deny yourself the things that can help you grow and thrive, you play small rather than live the life you deserve.

As Warren Buffett said, “The most important investment you can make is in yourself.” So, stop wasting money on the things you think will bring you joy because your happiness from acquiring more stuff is usually short-lived. Instead, invest in your future–invest in yourself.
